Where there’s money to be made, there will be people trying to game the system – and the world of affiliate marketing is no different.

Want to know HOW people are breaking the rules? Simple – log into your favorite affiliate network, and start browsing offer restrictions. (You can do the same for traffic source TOS’s as well!)

If an advertiser specifically tells affiliates NOT to do something, you can bet there are people doing it – and not just one. (Kind of like when you see one mouse in your house, chances are there’s tons more in hiding…)

Just for fun, I’ve compiled a list of the common “DO NOTs” I’ve found in offer restrictions.

It’s by no means an exhaustive list, but some of the common ones are there.

It’s not up to me to comment on whether it’s right or wrong to run against the rules – I myself use a lot of aggressive lander elements. However:

Depending on the offer, adult traffic can result in lower lead quality. Another reason for this requirement is that some advertisers don’t want their offer to be associated with adult.
